Branch S161, Youngstown, OH: Join Hands Day and Random Acts of Kindness
Senior
Branch 161, FCSLA, Youngstown, Ohio, and Holy Family Elementary
School group, ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) joined hands to beautify
the school grounds on Friday, May 17, 2013.
President of S 161,
Virginia DeLuca, her husband, Fred, and S161 Financial Secretary,
Bernie Demechko, observed as ARK members dug, hoed, planted and
mulched plants.
The ARK group, with Melanie Jones as Director, has
forty members from grades six through eight. They meet monthly to
plan community projects and sponsor field trips to broaden their
knowledge of the community. The assistant of the Ark group is Tina
Kali.
Senior
Branch 161 donated the money to purchases the shrubs and flowers that
were planted. Last year the same group joined together and
completed a similar project at the Poland Youth Soccer Field.
ARK
projects this past year included making fleece blankets for the
Neo-Natal Unit at Saint Elizabeth Hospital. They made and sent
larger blankets to military patients at Walter Reed Hospital in
Washington, D.C. They have baked bread for distribution at Sojourner
House (Domestic Abuse Program) and have assisted at Sacred Heart
Kitchen for distribution of food to those in need.
