St. Wenceslaus - Cedar Rapids, IA
Many of our FCSLA members from Branch W045 volunteered their time and energy
to help restore the St. Wenceslaus Parish in Cedar Rapids, IA. In June, the
flooding left the church and several other buildings in devastation. The restoration
took approximately 6,000 hours and was accomplished by 5,500 volunteers. An
enormous amount of thanks goes to the tireless efforts of the branch members
and parishioners who helped restore the church. The reconstruction process
was no small task to undertake.
In just a little over 15 weeks, the parishioners are able to return home to
their church due to the incredible efforts of all the volunteers. The first
Mass to be celebrated in the church since the flood will be held on September
28, 2008. All FCSLA members are welcome to join this celebration of faith and
thanksgiving to God that they survived this tragedy and are back in their church.
Facts about the flooding:
- There was approximately 10" of water
on the floor of the Church.
- Chihak Hall was completely submerged
with water.
- Approximately 5 feet of water stood in the Rectory.
