FCSLA Fraternal Outreach is on the move in 2010
We continue to share stories with you on how "Volunteering Can Be Good
for Your Health."
John Moynihan is from Branch J-006 in Cleveland, OH and has just turned 12.
He volunteered to participate in a trail clean up at Cuyahoga Valley National
Park. He put in 8 hours of service work picking up trash, cleaning out ditches
and pruning bushes or tree branches. In John's words, "This was
very hard but it was a good feeling to help the planet". John is an awesome
example of our future generations of volunteers. Way to go John!
Jennifer Kukulka Robertson is from Branch S-225 in Hickory Hills, IL and lives
in Arnold, MS. She shares with us her story of how volunteering helped her
with recovering from the devastated loss of her baby girl, Alyssa. Jennifer
shared that it was the hardest thing for them to accept in their lives, losing
their baby girl. In January of 2010, Jennifer started looking for a place to
donate her wedding dress. She stumbled upon a group called Newborns In Need
of Eastern Missouri. This group uses donated wedding gowns to make bereavement
items for babies who have passed away in a hospital or to help parents in need
of an outfit to bury their baby in. Jennifer decided in order to give back
to her community she would put her efforts into volunteering with Newborns
In Need. She makes deliveries of donated handmade and bereavement items to
various organizations in her area. Jennifer attends meetings once a month where
the volunteers make the items to donate. Every May she along with the other
volunteers hosts the "Largest Baby Shower on the Planet". The shower
raises funds and collects the needed baby items that are donated in their community.
Newborns in Need, Inc. was founded in 1992 upon Christian principles of serving
God's tiniest children who are in need of essential items without charge.

We thank Jennifer for sharing her story, which will hopefully encourage others
to join this ministry.
Martin McIntyre is the husband of our member Mary McIntyre from Branch
196 in Shenandoah, PA. Martin and Mary live in Monroe Township in NJ. Martin's
volunteer efforts were for the PCGG, (Prison Christian Growth Group) in Northeast
PA. He and as many as nine other volunteers traveled to the State Correctional
Institutions and met with the inmates on the weekends. They would pray with
the inmates and spend time with them. Martin said it was gratifying to see
the friendliness as they got to know the men. Martin says, "We left feeling
better and they felt better also". We thank Martin for sharing his volunteer
efforts.
Joseph Miklovic, secretary of Branch S101/J011 in St. Louis, MO, coordinated
and volunteered for a project on July 4th, 2010. The members of his branch
along with FCSU Branch 109 KJ and BSA Troop 115 from St. Mary Magdalen in south
city St. Louis held a flag collection drive after all the masses. There were
over 750 flags donated. The United States Flag Code states: "The flag,
when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display,
should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." We thank
Joseph for sharing his volunteer efforts and appreciate him coordinating this
project.
