State Fraternal Congress
Fraternalist of the Year Award for South Dakota Fraternal Congress
Stan Varilek has a long history of volunteerism for his church, community
and country. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years during
the Korean War.
Stan does woodworking as a hobby. He has used this talent to make over 40
flag cases to display casket flags.
He has been a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Tabor for over 42 years.
He was one of the first parishioners to become a lay minister, having done
this for over 20 years.
He keeps busy at Tabor's Annual Czech Days celebration by helping his
wife, Rita, with baking and packaging kolaches. In 2008, Stan and Rita were
chosen as Parade Marshals for the annual Czech Days parade. This was a big
honor for the two of them, and very well deserved.
Stan has become a member of the fraternal insurance organization, First Catholic
Slovak Ladies Association/ Catholic Workman, for 65 years. He has also served
the branch as trustee. Whatever the need, we can always count on Stan to help!
